Feedback

I had a friend, Brendan Callaghan, try out my demo and wrote down some of the comments they had.

The controls set where intuitive. The rotation was a bit slow for me personally. The movement speed was also quite fast. Adding a walking and sprinting speed would be nice. You could walk through things if you janked it a bit.

Evaluation

I feel that I wasn’t that successful complete what I set out to do. At the beginning of the project I set out to make a “VR game demo that uses hand tracking”. During the development of my project I have ended up having to drop the hand tracking support due to not being able to get it working. Though I have failed in getting hand tracking working I was successful in getting standalone VR and smooth locomotion working. I also failed at my evaluation target which was weekly updates/evaluations. Though I didn’t meet my initial expectations I am still proud of the effort I put in and what I was able to achieve in the end.

I agree with all the points made in the feedback. I would like to increase the speed of the rotation though I may need to write new code as currently the rotation works by commandeering the snap rotation code which if I were to increase its speed would make rotation feel snappy not smooth as desired. I would like to implement walking and sprinting speeds but that would be an additional add if I got the time not a main focus. Fixing the bug where you can sometimes walk through things was on my to do list as I found that while testing.

Working on this brief has helped me in both my personal development and my career ambitions as it has allowed me to further explore both Unreal Engine development and VR development. And as I aspire to become a VR programmer both of those things are very helpful.
