Did your game development help you develop a better understanding of your personal development? (what you’re good at, what you want to get better at, etc…)
Yes I have learnt that I’m good at programming and that I really enjoy it. I also learnt that 3D modelling isn’t something I enjoy and I’m not that good at it. I want to improve my programming skills and make more complex game mechanics.
What did you learn from the feedback you received during the exhibition?
That the mechanics in the game were good and that I need to have more environment 3D models.
Does your finished product meet your expectations and the designs you set out at the beginning of the assignment?
No. I didn’t get the time to complete one of the game mechanics which is the Bobzooka (extended throw). I decided to focus on getting the tutorial level complete over getting the Bobzooka in as the Bobzooka was quite a big task as I had to modify lots of bits of the player character to get the Bobzooka to work.
Evaluate skills that you have learnt so far for each of the following areas of the course (What have you Learnt? What did you find easy/difficult? )
Audio
I have learnt how to record and edit Foley which is something I found to be somewhat difficult.
Visual
I have learnt how to make 3D models which is something that I find very difficult.
Programming
I have learnt various game mechanics such as inventory and I have learnt how to work with blueprints and the various classes within Unreal Engine 5. I didn’t find this too difficult most of the time.
What skills would you like to learn going forward?
More programming. Learn how to make more complex game and more complex game mechanics. I’m also interested in learning how to make VR games.
