HSDC Week 1 Second Half of the Autumn Term 2023
This is my reflection for the first week of the second half of the Autumn term 2023. It is split into: interactive, audio, narrative theory and professional practice.
Interactive
This week we started to learn Unreal Engine 5 by using a tutorial program made by Unreal. We learnt the basics of the engine such as how to move, enlarge and rotate objects. This was massively helpful as Unreal Engine 5 is the game engine I am planning to use for Project Anaximander. Hopefully next week we do some coding within Unreal Engine 5.
Audio
This week in audio we learnt the importance of music in video games and how it can affect the way a scene can feel. As well we started to learn how to make music using BeepBox a web based application that allows you to make music. This was helpful as BeepBox is a simple tool to use to make music and as I don’t have musical talent I might use this tool to make the music in Project Anaximander.
Narrative Theory
In narrative theory this week we learnt about: narrative arc, conflict in narrative, character types, modes of storytelling, audience types and gender representation. These will all be helpful tools in developing the narrative in my games.
Professional Practice
In professional practice we learnt about and took a Belbin test and personality test as well we made a SWOT analysis of ourselves and started to write a personal profile. These tools will be helpful in future when applying for University, apprenticeships and/or jobs.
